What we stand for
The Labour Party is a democratic socialist party. It believes that by the strength of our common endeavour we achieve more than we achieve alone, so as to create for each of us the means to realise our true potential and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many not the few, where the rights we enjoy reflect the duties we owe, and where we live together, freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect.
The Local Party
Here in Warwick and Leamington, the local Labour Party is on your side in these tough times. Our local councillors are leading campaigns to protect vital community services from cuts imposed by Conservatives and Liberal Democrats. We are working closely with groups in all communities, and many people have joined us to help strengthen our efforts.
We all know the deficit has to be addressed. But the priorities have to be right. While the coalition goes easy on the bankers who got us into this fix, it’s stripping funding out of local services, making our hospitals, schools, transport and police take the strain instead. And by cutting too fast and too deep, the coalition is also putting the brakes onto local businesses, slowing the economy, and making it even harder to tackle the deficit.
In these tough times, more than ever, the priorities have to be right. Labour believes in putting people and communities first. We believe those who contributed most to creating the problem should now shoulder the responsibility for fixing things. The coalition government has its priorities wrong and is breaking the promises it made last year.
We are working hard locally to show that there is a fairer way to address the needs of our local community, and of our country. We hope this website will give you the information you need, and if you want to help us put the community’s priorities first, we hope you will come and join us.
Please do feel free to contact us by email on warwickandleamingtonclp@gmail.com or one of our councillors. Their contact details can be found in the local councillors' page.
Our top priorities
