Community Transport Scheme

The Tory administration on the district council dealt a blow to elderly and disabled people living in urban areas by scrapping the Community Taxi scheme.

For years, the District Council has provided a valued transport service to elderly and disabled residents across the district. The scheme allowed the booking of wheelchair accessible cars and mini-buses at a subsidised
rate.

In it’s place will be a limited taxi token scheme that will benefit only certain rural areas, and will cost the taxpayer an extra £120,000.

Cllr John Barrott, Deputy Leader of the Labour Group said, “the losers are the many people whose quality of life has been hit, and the council tax payers, with money being wasted on a scheme which fails to target real need or provide substantial benefit.”
