School Crossing Sign

School crossing campaign Stratford Road

Please sign Cllr Rebecca Clarke and Cllr John Holland's petition for a school crossing on Stratford Road.

As Warwick town Councillors and Governors at Newburgh School, Rebecca Clarke and John Holland are helping parents campaign to get a safe route to school for the many children that have to cross the busy Stratford Road every day to get to school.

This route is used not just by Newburgh Primary children, but children who attend Pathways Preschool, the Children's Centre and Aylesford School as well as their parents and younger siblings.

Some years back, Warwickshire County Council employed a school crossing patrol to help children cross safely. However, following a risk assessment the road was declared to dangerous for the school crossing patrol and the service was withdrawn. Many children now cross this road unassisted, and parents have been saying for some time now that an automatic, push button crossing is needed on this main route into town.

Following a public meeting at Newburgh School, a petition is now being circulated and we will present this to the Warwick Area Committee. Over 70 children cross the road from Newburgh Primary alone, and they must be able to do so safely.

Contact Cllr Rebecca Clarke for further details.
