Youth Services - Lillington

labour-logo

Members of the Lillington Labour Team attended a packed meeting at the Centre in December 2010 where local young people and their youth leaders spelt out the value of the centre and the range of work that went on there. We immediately got involved with petitioning to save the Centre and the wider Youth Service, working in close partnership with the Centre and the youth workers’ trade union, UNITE.

We petitioned at Crown Way shops and also on the Parade. In all over 13,000 people across Warwickshire signed the petition The Tory dominated County Council ignored us and moved to close down most of the service leaving what are called ‘Centres of Excellence’. These include Lillington but we won’t know until September what services will be on offer for young people but we expect to see a reduction in opening hours and in the range of activities.

Follow the link to the paper from the County Council's Cabinet on Thursdy 16 June where the final decision was made which centres would close and which stayed open in a completely different form.

A large number of interested people turned up to discuss proposed Youth Centre premises closures and changes to the Youth Service across Warwick.
